How to Install PhotoCraft (Desktop) — Step-by-Step

For PhotoCraft. Difficulty: beginner. Time: PT20M. Commands below are based on official docs, not yet tested.

Prerequisites

Steps

  1. Open the official repository. Use https://github.com/storytold/photocraft as the only install source for this guide.
  2. Read the current README. PhotoCraft is early alpha. Install commands can change; copy them from the README, not from memory or from this page’s placeholders.
  3. Follow the platform section that matches your OS. The README lists macOS, Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, and Web. We have not captured per-OS commands here because we have not run them.
  4. Confirm you launched the alpha build. If the app starts, you installed something. We do not yet have a verification screenshot or version string from a forkalt machine.

Based on official docs, not yet tested.

PhotoCraft is a pure-Rust editor in the ArtCraft suite. See the PhotoCraft overview before installing. Compare with GIMP if you need maturity rather than a new codebase.

Do not copy install commands from unofficial mirrors. The license on the repository is Apache-2.0 as of 2026-10-13.

Troubleshooting

  • Build or download steps in a blog post disagree with GitHub. Trust the repository. Third-party write-ups are out of scope until we test them.
  • The app crashes. Expected risk in early alpha. File issues upstream; this guide cannot provide unsourced workarounds.
